Discussion on Development Directions for Airport Complex Cities Linked to Foreign Direct Investment
Busan Metropolitan Corporation (BMC, President Kim Yonghak) held the 21st session of the learning group ‘Smart BOOKmorning’ on the 22nd, focusing on the creation of smart cities and an airport complex city.
‘Smart BOOKmorning’ is BMC’s learning group, held from 7:30 to 9:00 AM on the last Wednesday of every month. Since its first session in July 2022, it has continued for 21 sessions, covering topics such as smart cities, maritime cities, and airport complex cities.
This session featured a special lecture by Professor Jung Moosub of Dong-A University’s Department of International Trade on the theme ‘Development Direction of the Gadeokdo New Airport Complex City Linked to Foreign Direct Investment.’
Professor Jung Moosub is an expert in international logistics who previously served as a senior researcher at Samsung Economic Research Institute’s Global Research Division. He stated that building global connectivity infrastructure is a decisive factor in investment location decisions.
He further stressed that, since Gimhae Airport is already operating at a surplus and has secured passenger demand, it is necessary to establish a ‘Triport’ logistics system combining airport, port, and land transport. This would complete the network for passengers and logistics and attract high-value-added service companies.
Members who attended the event discussed detailed conditions for attracting global companies to the Gadeokdo New Airport Complex City, the added value this would bring, and shared opinions on areas for improvement and supplementation.
