After the announcement in March, there was high interest in the scholarship program among students, parents, and schools in the local community, resulting in 378 applicants for the 360 available spots for the Future Generation Happiness Fund scholarship.
The scholarship amount per recipient is 500,000 KRW for elementary, middle, and high school students, and up to 2,000,000 KRW for university students. The city plans to award the scholarship certificates and distribute approximately 240 million KRW in scholarships to the selected recipients around the middle of next month.
A city official stated, "Each year, we see increasing interest from students, parents, and schools," and added, "We will do our best to discover and nurture outstanding local talent through the continued implementation of the scholarship program, in line with the interest shown by our citizens."
Since 2019, the city has established a 50 billion KRW fund through city contributions and private donations, and has been operating the Future Generation Happiness Fund scholarship program for four years. As of last year, scholarships have been awarded to 881 local talents.
