Songpa-gu Holds First Resident Lecture for Carbon Neutrality Practice

Socioeconomic Alternatives for Addressing the Climate Crisis Presented by an Economist
Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) will hold a special lecture for the first time to help residents practice carbon neutrality in their daily lives. The lecture will take place on May 24th at 3 PM in the main auditorium of the Songpa-gu Office.
In particular, considering the global and all-encompassing impact of the climate crisis, the district invited Professor Hong Jong-ho from Seoul National University’s Graduate School of Environmental Studies as the lecturer, focusing on raising awareness.
Professor Hong has emphasized the need to recognize the climate crisis not as an environmental issue but as an economic issue by informing about the global shift in perspectives on climate. Based on this, he highlights the convergent nature of climate and environmental problems and proposes socio-economic alternatives to address related issues.
The lecture, titled “The Path South Korea Should Take in the Era of Climate Crisis and Carbon Neutrality,” will last for 90 minutes.
Specifically, it will cover the severity of the climate crisis, greenhouse gas reduction measures as a response, and adaptation methods to the warming global environment. It will also delve into the global economy’s transition to a decarbonized trade norm order, its impact on South Korea, and practical measures that local residents can take.
The special lecture is free and open to anyone interested. Applications can be made through the ‘SongpaRun Education Portal’ until the start of the lecture.
