"If You Hope Nothing Happens to Your Daughter..." A Chilling Letter a Teacher Received from a Parent
Seoul Elementary School Teacher Receives Threatening Letter from Parents
'It's Not the Child's Fault, I Realized It Was Yours'
"Education Office Delays Criminal Complaint for 3 Months," Criticized
A teacher at an elementary school in Seoul received a threatening letter from a parent. Although the education office judged the matter as an 'infringement on educational activities' and announced plans to take measures such as criminal charges, there are criticisms that the action has been delayed for three months.
According to the letter disclosed by the Seoul Teachers' Union on the 16th, elementary school teacher Mr. A was threatened in red letters by a parent last July, saying, "Mr. OO, if you want nothing to happen to your daughter, it would be best to read the letter to the end."

Mr. B also threatened, "Thanks to you, I have come to know that these days, it is nothing to find out personal information and do something with just a few bucks."
Mr. B said that his child regained a bright demeanor at the school to which they transferred and stated, "As expected, I have come to know clearly that the problem is not with my child but with Mr. A. I am endlessly sorry for having doubted and distrusted my child even for a moment because of your words."
He then listed six items as "advice from a 12-year-old child who briefly stayed in your classroom," which the child reportedly wrote. These included: "Do not force your emotions to be empathized with by children," "Be a confident and honest person yourself," "If your human rights are important, respect the human rights of others," "I hope this incident becomes an opportunity for your growth," "Think about your own problems before scolding others," and "Do not hide behind children; resolve adult matters among adults."

Teacher A recommended a comprehensive psychological test for the child, and Mr. B showed willingness by saying he would pay for the test himself. However, later, Mr. B began expressing dissatisfaction, citing reasons such as his child being excluded from group photos taken with students. He made protest calls to teacher A and mentioned the previously discussed psychological test, claiming, "You are making my child a mental patient."
Teacher A reportedly expressed fear, saying, "I was unable to live a normal life due to the fear that the parent might threaten my daughter." Consequently, a request was made to the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education's School Teachers' Rights Protection Committee for deliberation. The committee recognized Mr. B's actions as an 'infringement on educational activities' in December of last year and requested criminal charges from the city education office in February this year.

However, the union pointed out, "Although teacher A was threatened with harm to even his child, the education office's criminal charges against the parent have been delayed for three months," adding, "Since the Seoicho incident last year, amendments such as the 'Five Laws for Teachers' Rights' have been made, but on-site teachers still continue to not receive protection for their educational activities."
