Edward of the UK Completes Semiconductor EUV Core Component Factory in Asan... Expanding Exports by 300 Billion KRW Annually
Edward UK completed the construction of a core component production plant for extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography processes on the 14th.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that Choi Woo-seok, Director General of Trade and Investment, attended the completion ceremony of Edward UK's new core component production plant for EUV lithography processes held in Asan, Chungnam on the same day.
Edward, the world's number one company in vacuum pump production for semiconductor manufacturing processes, relocated all its production facilities from its home country to Korea in 2009, based on Korea's world-class semiconductor industry competitiveness and excellent human resource infrastructure. Since then, including the newly completed plant, it has established a total of five plants in Cheonan and Asan. In January, Jung In-gyo, Director General of Trade Negotiations, visited the existing Asan plant to discuss future investment plans and support the resolution of difficulties.
In particular, this production plant plans to manufacture integrated vacuum solutions and gas treatment equipment used for EUV lithography process equipment. These products will be supplied not only to domestic semiconductor manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix but also exported to global semiconductor companies like Intel and TSMC.
This is expected to stabilize the supply chain of parts and equipment for the critical lithography process in semiconductors, strengthen domestic parts and equipment production competitiveness, actively contribute to achieving a semiconductor super-gap, and simultaneously enhance cooperative relationships with excellent domestic and international semiconductor companies. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy also expects this to benefit the overall Korean economy through exports exceeding 300 billion KRW annually and regional job creation.
