Seocho-gu Opens 3km Section of 'Umyunsan Barrier-Free Forest Trail'
Seocho Yaksuteo~National Gugak Center Phase 1 Section
Total 8.69km to Open Sequentially by 2026
Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) announced on the 14th that it opened a 3km section of the ‘Umyunsan Barrier-Free Forest Trail’ from Umyeonsan Seocho Spring to the National Gugak Center starting on the 13th.
The ‘Umyunsan Barrier-Free Forest Trail’ is constructed with wooden decks that have gentle slopes and no obstacles such as stairs, allowing everyone from infants to the elderly and people with disabilities to enjoy a safe and comfortable walk.
Since 2022, Seocho-gu has been promoting the creation of a barrier-free forest trail embracing beautiful nature along the southern loop road of Umyeonsan. By 2026, a total of 8.69km of barrier-free forest trails will be opened sequentially in four phases.
The newly introduced section is the first phase among the four, stretching 3km. Starting from Seocho Spring, visitors can enjoy magnificent natural scenery where nature and culture harmonize along the ridge behind the Seoul Arts Center, Korea National University of Arts, and the National Gugak Center.
The barrier-free forest trail features various attractions providing unique experiences for residents, including the ‘Birdsong Rest Area’ where visitors can check the names of birds inhabiting Umyeonsan via QR codes, the ‘Observation Deck’ overlooking the Seoul Arts Center and the southern loop road, the ‘Cherry Blossom Playground’ with a natural playground in a cherry tree forest, the ‘Seopdari Bridge’ reinterpreting the traditional log bridge, and the ‘Sound Rest Area’ where the practice sounds of the National Gugak Center resonate. Additionally, based on residents’ feedback, a natural dirt path called the ‘Barefoot Path’ has been created.
Seocho-gu plans to open the second phase, about 1km from the National Gugak Center to opposite CJ Construction, in November this year. The third phase is a 2.5km loop inside Bangbae Neighborhood Park, and the fourth phase covers a 2.19km section from the Bangbae Park connection to Bangbae Sports Park.
On the 13th, Seocho-gu held the ‘Umyunsan Barrier-Free Forest Trail Opening Ceremony and Walking Event’ attended by about 120 people including Mayor Jeon Seong-su, local members of the National Assembly, and residents.
