The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced on the 10th that it invited 10 firefighters from the Philippine Fire Department for a ten-day program including fire, rescue, and emergency medical training as well as tours of firefighting facilities.
They first experienced fire suppression, lifesaving, and water rescue training at the fire, rescue, and emergency training grounds. Then, they visited the 119 Integrated Situation Room at the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters in Suwon and frontline fire stations to observe the on-site command system, firefighting facilities, and equipment. They also visited Lotte Tower in Seoul to receive training on disaster management systems for high-rise buildings.
In particular, Cho Seon-ho, head of the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters, recommended the introduction of cart-type fire trucks that can be pulled in island areas of the Philippines, which drew deep interest from the Filipino firefighters.
The Gyeonggi-do Fire Academy has previously established an "International Disaster Management Cooperation Program" with three countries?Mongolia, Vietnam, and the Philippines?in 2014 and has been conducting the program annually. Over the past seven years, a total of 108 Filipino firefighters have visited the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters.
