Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su)’s Hongdae Red Road has become even safer with the installation of ‘Smart Pole’ safety streetlights.
Mapo-gu installed 23 ‘Smart Pole’ safety streetlights along the R2 section of Hongdae Red Road through the ‘Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Safety Streetlight Plus’ project promoted by the social welfare corporation Milal Welfare Foundation, and held a lighting ceremony at 6:30 PM on May 9.
The ‘Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Safety Streetlight Plus’ project supports the installation of safety streetlights to enhance security in crime-prone or densely populated areas. Mapo-gu achieved the great success of applying in July last year and being selected as a recipient in September.
Accordingly, Mapo-gu signed a business agreement with Milal Welfare Foundation for the installation of safety streetlights and designated the installation locations as Hongdae Red Road, a representative attraction of Mapo with heavy foot traffic, and the Ahyeon-dong area.
On Hongdae Red Road, 23 ‘Smart Pole’ safety streetlights were installed in the R2 area, which is close to Hongdae Entrance Station and has a busking zone attracting many tourists. Of these, 8 were installed by Mapo-gu and 15 by Milal Welfare Foundation.
The installed ‘Smart Pole’ safety streetlights are equipped not only with LED lights and WiFi but also with CCTV and emergency safety bells. The CCTV is connected to the Mapo-gu Integrated Control Center, which operates 24 hours a day.
In case of an emergency while using Hongdae Red Road, if the emergency safety bell is activated, an operator at the Mapo-gu Integrated Control Center monitors the situation via CCTV and, depending on the circumstances, activates the ‘Safe Mapo Hotline’ for cooperation with related agencies to take urgent action.
Mapo-gu expects that the ‘Smart Pole’ safety streetlights, together with the ‘AI Crowd Density System’ installed at six locations on Hongdae Red Road, will play a significant role in preventing crowd-related accidents and other safety incidents, as well as enhancing the convenience of tourists.
