Gwangju Buk-gu Council Commemorates 5·18 Democratization Movement with Memorial Visit
Members of the Buk-gu Council in Gwangju Metropolitan City visited the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery to pay tribute to the spirits of the victims.
On the 9th, to commemorate the 44th anniversary of the 5·18 Democratic Movement, Buk-gu Council members and staff from the Council Secretariat paid their respects by laying flowers and incense at the memorial tower in the Democratic Cemetery, honoring the spirits of the democratic martyrs who sacrificed for democracy.
Following this, guided by officials from the 5·18 Democratic Cemetery Management Office, they listened to explanations about the 5·18 Democratic Movement, toured the cemetery grounds, and took time to reflect on its significance.
Chairman Kim stated, “The noble spirit of the May spirits, who selflessly sacrificed themselves to protect democracy in this country, continues today through sharing and community spirit. We will inherit their noble spirit of sacrifice and become a Buk-gu Council that listens more attentively to the voices of the residents and faithfully fulfills the council’s fundamental role.”
