'North America Business Trip' Kim Dong-yeon Proposes Collaboration with Nvidia to Establish Gyeonggi-do AI Data Center

View original imageKim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, who is visiting the North American region to strengthen international exchange cooperation and attract overseas investment, recently visited the headquarters of NVIDIA and Google in the United States, which have been prominent in the artificial intelligence (AI) industry, to discuss cooperation plans with Gyeonggi Province.
Five local AI-related companies, including NHN CLOUD, Saeron Solution Co., Ltd., AI for Blockchain Co., Ltd., Creffle Co., Ltd., and Able J Co., Ltd., participated in the meeting.
On the 7th (local time), Governor Kim first visited NVIDIA headquarters located in Santa Clara and met with Shanker Trivedi, Senior Vice President of Enterprise Business. During the meeting, Governor Kim requested support, stating that NVIDIA’s AI semiconductors and technology are needed for the AI data center that Gyeonggi Province is promoting.
Governor Kim said, "Siheung Seoul National University Hospital is planning an AI medical data center. It has a large site and bio companies are expected to move in," adding, "We also plan to promote an AI data center in the northern Gyeonggi region and want to create a data center specialized in specific fields such as culture or climate," requesting cooperation.
He also proposed, "I hope to strengthen cooperation between NVIDIA and Gyeonggi Province further and form a working group to maintain contact and find specific areas of collaboration."
Shanker Trivedi, Senior Vice President of NVIDIA, responded, "NVIDIA can provide the necessary solutions for both data centers you mentioned. We will participate in the working group for more detailed discussions."
Gyeonggi Province anticipates that artificial intelligence (AI) will be introduced in all industries and is reviewing plans to attract private investment to build data centers to support this.
Following NVIDIA, Governor Kim visited Google headquarters and held discussions with MK Palmore, Director of Google Cloud Information Security, Senior Researcher Yoon Jin-sung, and Kim Sun-sik, Head of Google Cloud Division, on cooperation plans for Gyeonggi Province AI startups and talent development.
Lee Su-jae, Director of the AI Big Data Industry Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "The reason Gyeonggi Province met with Google is to cooperate with Google to provide talent development and new opportunities for Gyeonggi startups," and requested, "Please review ways for Gyeonggi startups to expand globally with Google."

Meanwhile, earlier that morning, Governor Kim held a video meeting with a world-leading technology company located on the U.S. East Coast to encourage investment in Gyeonggi Province.
