Asan-si Launches Full-Scale Control Project for American White Moth
4000 King Cherry Trees Injection Treatment in Baebang, Dogo, Seonjang, Yeongin, and Tangjeong
Last year, Asan City in Chungnam, which suffered damage from the street tree pest ‘American white moth,’ is set to launch a full-scale control project.
The American white moth population has surged nationwide every year due to abnormal weather, causing inconvenience to citizens with complaints about caterpillar (American white moth larvae) damage on street trees and in parks within the jurisdiction.
In particular, last year, damage reports were frequent in Baebang-eup, Dogo-myeon, Seonjang-myeon, Yeongin-myeon, and Tangjeong-myeon, causing significant inconvenience to residents.
The city expects the hatching period of the American white moth, which entered overwintering due to abnormal weather this year, to be earlier, and will carry out pest control projects on street trees and park trees from May to November.
The control project will target 4,000 king cherry trees on street roads in areas severely affected last year, using the trunk injection method.
In addition to trunk injections, the city plans to conduct spraying control projects three times a year on street trees and park trees in the jurisdiction, timed with larval hatching through monitoring. The city also intends to operate its own control team to carry out frequent pest control work, continuously conducting pest and disease control and quarantine activities.
