On the morning of the 7th, after presiding over an expanded executive meeting, Mayor Lee visited the press room and commented on the SEMAS relocation, saying, "If you have been a mayor even for just one day, it is a duty to hold love and affection for the city until death as a way of serving the citizens," adding, "In that sense, I find this very regrettable."
He continued, "Putting aside the issue of whether to relocate an institution or not, the decision to move SEMAS to Daejeon was made as a compensatory measure after the Chung-gu provincial office building was relocated," and criticized the relocation process by saying, "It was done hesitantly, taking advantage of the confusion during the last election."
He also strongly criticized the fact that despite delivering a protest letter to the MSS on the 24th of last month, the relevant department refused to accept it. Mayor Lee raised his voice, saying, "We submitted an electronic document, but it still has not been accepted as of today," and added, "If a local government delivers a protest letter in writing, and it was done by the mayor himself, can a mere section chief refuse it? In short, the situation from top to bottom is terrible."
Targeting Park Seong-hyo, chairman of SEMAS, he said, "As a former mayor, this can only be seen as a petty obstruction," and emphasized, "The wisest answer is for the SEMAS chairman to resign immediately."
He added, "As a former mayor, this is excessive," and said, "I will send a letter demanding resignation to the Presidential Office."
At the earlier expanded executive meeting, Mayor Lee also criticized, saying, "SEMAS had the purpose of balanced development, a task of the times, and to help small business owners in the original downtown area after the Chungnam provincial office moved out," and added, "But suddenly, during the election period, secretly signing contracts like a thief is very inappropriate."
