Gwangyang Sarasil Art Village Launches "Hyeonhosek Blooming Between Castle Stones" Program
Reflecting on the Value and Significance of the National Heritage Marosan Fortress
Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do announced that it will hold ‘Sunlight Captured in Jipsujeong,’ one of the programs of the Saengsaeng National Heritage Project ‘Hyeonhosek Blooming Between Castle Stones,’ selected by the Cultural Heritage Administration’s 2024 public contest, at the Sarasil Art Village starting from the 11th.
The Saengsaeng National Heritage Project is a Cultural Heritage Administration public contest project that aims to discover the value and meaning of dormant national heritage and creatively transform it into cultural content, based on the strategies of ‘Lowering the threshold of national heritage,’ ‘Raising the quality of programs,’ and ‘Greatly enhancing citizens’ happiness.’ Gwangyang City has been selected since 2018 and has been promoting the project for seven years.
This project consists of four programs designed to allow everyone from children to adults to easily and enjoyably experience national heritage through educational and experiential activities related to national heritage: ▲‘Sunlight Captured in Jipsujeong,’ ▲‘Saengsaeng National Heritage Guardians,’ ▲‘Saengsaeng Fortress Exploration Team,’ and ▲‘The Heart That Draws Becomes the Sea.’
The first program to kick off the series, ‘Sunlight Captured in Jipsujeong,’ will be held at Gwangyang Sarasil Art Village on the 11th, with two sessions at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., each lasting two hours. Participants will listen to stories about Baekje fortress culture and the history of Gwangyang, then make plaster air fresheners shaped like roof tiles excavated from the fortress.
Additionally, through upcycling activities, participants can become national heritage guardians protecting Marosan Fortress in the ▲‘Saengsaeng National Heritage Guardians’ program; explore Marosan Fortress and deliver messages to protect it in the ▲‘Saengsaeng Fortress Exploration Team’; and learn vivid stories of the Jeong Byeong-wook House, engage in various experiential activities related to poet Yun Dong-ju, including poetry recitations and performances, in the ▲‘The Heart That Draws Becomes the Sea’ program.
Details about the programs and schedules can be found on the Gwangyang City Hall website and the Gwangyang Sarasil Art Village Band.
Jo Juhyeon, director of Gwangyang Sarasil Art Village, said, “Interest and pride in national heritage increase when people can easily and comfortably approach it and directly experience its diverse values. We plan to conduct content that will help discard the preconceived notion that national heritage is difficult and rigid, so we hope many citizens will participate.”
