Gyeonggi-do Supports 980 Assistive ICT Devices for People with Disabilities
Gyeonggi Province will distribute 980 units of 143 types of information and communication assistive devices to support the learning and daily lives of people with disabilities.
Gyeonggi Province announced that from the 7th of this month until the 21st of next month, it will accept applications for support of 'information and communication assistive devices,' which are assistive tools using information and communication technology to help people with disabilities in their daily lives, including screen reading software (S/W), touch monitors, and braille information terminals.
To this end, Gyeonggi Province has secured a total of 143 types of equipment, including 72 types for the visually impaired, 23 types for those with physical and brain lesion disabilities, and 48 types for those with hearing and speech disabilities.
Applicants must be registered as disabled under the 'Act on Welfare of Persons with Disabilities' and have their resident registration in Gyeonggi Province, or be national veterans who have been assessed with a disability grade under the 'Act on the Honorable Treatment and Support of Persons, etc. of Distinguished Services to the State.'
If selected as a final support recipient, applicants can receive 80% of the product price of the information and communication assistive device. Basic livelihood security recipients and low-income disabled persons receive 90% support.
Gyeonggi Province will select the final recipients through document evaluation, expert review, and in-depth consultation, and announce the results on July 18 on the Gyeonggi Province website (gg.go.kr).
Originally, Gyeonggi Province planned to distribute information and communication assistive devices to 1,000 people last year, but 2,943 people applied, and assistive devices were distributed to 1,089 people.
