Up to 1.32km Long Causeway Pedestrian Bridge Expected to Become a Landmark

Gohung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that on the 24th, they completed the construction of the Namyang-myeon Udo connected pedestrian bridge, which allows constant access between the mainland and Udo Island, alleviating the inconvenience of the tidal path that appears only twice a day when the sea route opens, and held a completion ceremony to create a tourist attraction.

The completion ceremony was attended by about 200 people, including Governor Gong Young-min, heads of institutions and social organizations, and local residents, and proceeded with a progress report, presentation of plaques of appreciation, ribbon cutting for the completion commemoration, and commemorative photography.

The Namyang Udo connected pedestrian bridge is the longest connected pedestrian bridge in Korea, spanning 1.32 km of sea route connecting the island village of Udo in Namyang-myeon and the mainland, with a total project cost of 7.2 billion KRW. After gathering residents' opinions, conducting various review services, and administrative procedures, construction began in July 2022 and was completed in 1 year and 8 months, marking a remarkable achievement.

The Namyang Udo connected pedestrian bridge was uniquely painted with rainbow colors on the railings and floor, symbolizing hope and luck, enhancing the scenery and beauty of the Udo sea, and the bridge was named "Udo Rainbow Bridge."

With the completion of the Rainbow Bridge, island residents can move immediately even in emergencies, improving the quality of life for Udo residents, and both residents and tourists can walk in the middle of the sea and enjoy the beautiful sunset, making it expected to become a tourist attraction in Gohung-gun.

Governor Gong Young-min said, "Through the Udo Rainbow Bridge, which symbolizes new hope, more tourists will be able to appreciate the beautiful scenery of Udo, and combined with the sunset at Jungsan, it will become a new landmark for tourism in the region," adding, "We will actively develop Udo to become the center of northern tourism."

A county official said, "We will do our best to add convenience facilities around the Rainbow Bridge so that local residents and tourists do not experience any inconvenience."
