Choo Mi-ae: "Lee Jae-myung's Reappointment as Leader is Desirable"
"Lee Jae-myung Absolutely Necessary" Emphasized
"Yoon's State Administration Causes Great Concern"
Choo Mi-ae, the elected representative of the Democratic Party for Gyeonggi Hanam-gap, emphasized her leadership along with the necessity of Lee Jae-myung's reappointment as party leader.
On the 19th, Choo stated on MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' that "My conviction is that a speaker who can properly gather public opinion and lead a parliament that aligns with democratic governance is needed." She added, "If I become the Speaker of the National Assembly, I must abandon party affiliation and engage in mediating politics," and said, "Leadership is needed to thoroughly understand key agendas, identify sources of conflict, and guide the parliament to solve problems."
Choo also highlighted that she was the key figure who, as the Democratic Party leader during the impeachment phase, persuaded Kim Moo-sung and secured 28 non-Park faction votes. She explained her leadership by saying, "While serving as the Chair of the Environment and Labor Committee, I resolved conflicts between labor unions with opposing interests through bipartisan leadership." She also mentioned her clashes with Yoon Seok-youl, then Prosecutor General, while serving as Minister of Justice during the Moon Jae-in administration. She said, "I am also hearing external evaluations that Choo Mi-ae was right."
Regarding the controversy over which party will take the Chair of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee or the Steering Committee in the first half of the 22nd National Assembly, she said, "The bill passage rate was 45% in the 19th National Assembly, but it dropped significantly to 36.6% in the 21st National Assembly," and added, "The low passage rate is due to the poor performance of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee." She further explained, "The so-called 'People's Parliament' and 'Innovative Parliament' should be led by the party that holds the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, so naturally, it should be the Democratic Party."
Choo also mentioned the necessity of Lee Jae-myung's reappointment as party leader. She emphasized, "For the party leader's good ideas to be reflected in legislation, a proper role must be exercised," and said, "In terms of policy capability, ideas, and serving as a focal point within the party, Lee is absolutely necessary."
