Graduate Student at Dong-A University Selected as a Scholar for the '1st Presidential Science Scholarship'
New Scholarship Support for Science and Engineering Graduate Students Established This Year
Overcoming 25:1 Competition Ratio, Up to 96 Million KRW
Dong-A University (President Lee Hae-woo) announced on the 16th that graduate students Yoon Hye-jin (Ph.D. program in Health Sciences) and Jeon Je-seok (Master's program in Biomedical Sciences) have been selected as scholarship recipients of the "1st Graduate Presidential Science Scholarship."
Ph.D. candidate Yoon and master's candidate Jeon made the list of scholarship recipients announced recently by the Ministry of Science and ICT, overcoming a high competition rate of 25 to 1.
Ph.D. candidate Yoon will receive an annual scholarship of 24 million KRW, up to a maximum of 96 million KRW, while master's candidate Jeon will receive 18 million KRW annually, up to a maximum of 36 million KRW.
The Graduate Presidential Science Scholarship is a newly established program this year aimed at providing differentiated scholarship support for graduate students in science and engineering fields.
The Ministry of Science and ICT has finally selected 120 graduate students for the Presidential Science Scholarship to enhance the pride of master's and doctoral talents in science and engineering and support their growth into world-class researchers.
Ph.D. candidate Yoon Hye-jin is conducting research on the importance of metabolic and non-metabolic functions of serine biosynthesis enzymes, focusing on biomarker discovery and target-based metabolic anticancer therapy strategies.
Master's candidate Jeon Je-seok is conducting research on the molecular mechanisms of genome stability.
Ph.D. candidate Yoon said, "As a recipient of the 1st Graduate Presidential Science Scholarship, I will carry a strong sense of responsibility. I am grateful to my advisor, Professor Lee Jong-ho, for his various teachings and opportunities," adding, "I will grow into an innovative research talent leading cancer metabolism research and contribute to the advancement of domestic science and technology and basic research in metabolism-related fields."

Master's candidate Jeon said, "With a sense of responsibility and pride, I will devote myself to DNA repair research and contribute to the development of basic science in the Republic of Korea," and expressed gratitude to Professor Kang Tae-hong and his lab colleagues for sharing this honor.
