Mother Sentenced to 7 Years for Killing Daughter Born in Motel: "Tried to Induce Miscarriage by Drinking, Ultimately Committed Crime"
A woman in her 40s who killed her daughter, born alone in a motel, by throwing her out of the second-floor window of the room was sentenced to a heavy prison term.
The Criminal Division 1 of Bucheon Branch Court, Incheon District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Jeong-ah) sentenced A (41, female), who was indicted on charges of child abuse homicide under the Special Act on the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes, to 7 years in prison at the sentencing hearing held on the 12th. She was also ordered to complete 40 hours of a child abuse treatment program and was restricted from working at child-related institutions for 10 years after release.
The court stated, "The defendant neglected the victim, whom she was supposed to protect, on the floor of the (motel) room immediately after giving birth, covered her with a blanket and abandoned her, and then dropped her out of the window, killing her," adding, "The victim died in pain at the hands of the defendant, who was her sole guardian."
It continued, "The defendant had time to prepare for post-birth situations such as adoption from April last year, when she learned of her pregnancy, until giving birth in October of the same year," and added, "She drank alcohol during her pregnancy, hoping for a natural miscarriage, but ultimately committed the crime."
However, the court explained the sentencing reasoning by saying, "The defendant admitted her crime in court and showed remorse," and "Considering that she became pregnant without any preparation and committed the crime in a state of shock after giving birth in an unexpected place."
A was arrested and indicted on charges of killing her daughter B, whom she gave birth to alone in a second-floor motel room in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, last October by throwing her 5 meters down to the first floor through the window. B was found by a nearby resident five days after the incident but was already deceased.

In the police investigation, A claimed, "I thought someone would find her, take her, and raise her well. I don't know who the father is." It was reported that she had been out of contact with her family for over 20 years and had no residence or job, living in motels only occasionally when she had some money.
