Yoon Jae-ok to Hold General Assembly for Four-Term or More Senior Elected Members
Discussion on Schedule for Next Leadership Formation Including National Convention
"We Will Decide After Considering Various Opinions"
The People Power Party, engulfed in turmoil following its defeat in the 22nd general election, plans to hold a meeting of senior elected members on the 15th to discuss measures for party recovery, including the formation of the next leadership team.
On the 12th, Yoon Jae-ok, the floor leader of the People Power Party and acting party leader, met with reporters at the party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, stating, "We will hold a meeting with elected members who have been elected four times or more to discuss party recovery measures," adding, "We will listen to the valuable opinions of senior lawmakers and synthesize various views to decide how to manage the party's recovery."

Within the People Power Party, there are diverse opinions, including maintaining the emergency committee system while holding a party convention around July, and holding an early party convention to demonstrate a commitment to personnel reform. According to party rules and regulations, after the vacancy of the emergency committee chairperson, the floor leader assumes the role of acting leader. However, it is reported that Floor Leader Yoon has been deliberating over whether to take responsibility as a co-chair of the election committee. Emergency committee chairman Han Dong-hoon and secretary-general Jang Dong-hyuk all resigned the day before.
Within the party, the opinion that holding a party convention to compete for party leadership immediately at this point could provoke backlash is gaining traction. A senior elected member of the People Power Party said, "Since the actual term of elected members begins in June, an acting leadership system is inevitable for the time being," adding, "An immediate competition for party leadership might not look good to the public."
Depending on the formation of the next leadership team, the People Power Party may seek to rebound in approval ratings. Establishing a new relationship between the presidential office and the party-government cooperation, as well as resolving pressing issues such as the 'medical school expansion' issue, are expected to be top priorities.
