Selected for the Digital Twin-Based 'Suncheonman Wetland Creation Simulation Contest'
Analog Suncheon Bay, Managed with Digital Technology
Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Nogwan-gyu) announced that it has been finally selected for the Suncheon Bay Wetland Creation Simulation SaaS Development Demonstration Project, a digital twin utilization-based project announced by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
Through this project, the city will collect data from Suncheon Bay Wetland and develop and build simulation service software that can manage a digital Suncheon Bay Wetland created through 3D modeling.
The city formed a consortium centered on the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology and participated under the team name ‘S-Amazon,’ receiving full national funding of 1 billion KRW for the project.
Digital twin refers to a technology that creates an identical object (twin) in a virtual space to verify it through various simulations. SaaS (Software as a Service) is cloud-based software that allows users to access and use IT resources such as hardware or software over the internet without owning them.
Accordingly, the city plans to expand and efficiently manage the wetland to respond to the climate crisis and preserve endangered species by developing Suncheon Bay Wetland as a ‘refugia for coexistence between humans and tidal flats.’
Furthermore, the city stated that domestic and international local governments and public institutions wishing to create and efficiently manage wetlands can purchase the results and use them as a cloud-based subscription service, enabling simulation tests during wetland creation or expansion with minimal initial setup costs.
