National Museum of Korea Ranks 6th Worldwide in Visitor Attraction Last Year

Highest Record Based on Asia Standards
The National Museum of Korea was ranked as the sixth most visited museum and art gallery in the world last year. According to visitor statistics released on the 7th by the British art media Art Newspaper, the museum recorded 4,180,285 visitors last year, ranking sixth among the surveyed museums and art galleries.
Art Newspaper explained, "The number of visitors, which rebounded significantly in 2022, increased even further." Last year marked the first time the National Museum of Korea's annual visitor count exceeded 4 million. According to the museum's own published 'Annual Visitor Statistics,' this represents about a 22.5% increase compared to 3,411,381 visitors in 2022.
It is the highest figure in Asia. It surpasses the Hong Kong M+ Museum (15th place, 2,797,616 visitors) and Japan's National Art Center, Tokyo (21st place, 2,250,758 visitors) by a wide margin.
The museum and art gallery with the highest number of visitors worldwide was revealed to be the Louvre Museum in France, which attracted a staggering 8.86 million visitors last year. It was followed by the Vatican Museums in Italy (6,764,858 visitors), the British Museum (5,820,860 visitors), the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the United States (5,364,000 visitors), and the Tate Modern in the United Kingdom (4,742,038 visitors). Art Newspaper noted, "Many of the world's largest museums recorded visitor numbers similar to those before the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019."

The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul recorded 2,021,771 visitors, a 12% increase compared to 2022. The National Gyeongju Museum, affiliated with the National Museum of Korea, also showed an upward trend with 1,340,032 visitors.
