Gurye-gun Hosts Awards Ceremony for Korea Pressed Flower Exhibition

Writer Kim Myung-sook's 'Journey Embracing the Years' Wins Presidential Award

Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it held the award ceremony for the "23rd Korea Pressed Flower Exhibition" at the Gurye Culture and Arts Center on the 3rd.

This year, 322 works from 11 countries were submitted to the Pressed Flower Exhibition, and 75 works were selected as award winners. The winning works will be exhibited year-round at the Korea Pressed Flower Museum.

This year’s Grand Prize (President’s Award) was awarded to artist Kim Myung-sook for her work "A Journey Embracing Time."

"A Journey Embracing Time" is a piece that captures a cherished memory of precious encounters and the whispers of beautiful nature.

Artist Kim Myung-sook said, “The happiest time is when I am creating works while growing flowers in my small farm,” and added, “I will strive even harder to popularize pressed flower art.”

Jo Nam-hoon, chairman of the Pressed Flower Exhibition Committee, said, “Despite the turbulent international situation, excellent works were submitted from universities and pressed flower associations in a total of 11 countries including China and Germany,” and added, “The Korea Pressed Flower Exhibition is improving in quality year by year and is gaining recognition as a prestigious international event.”

Gurye County Governor Kim Soon-ho said, “Pressed flower art is an attractive field that combines nature and art to create new added value and can be industrialized,” and added, “I deeply thank the pressed flower artists who submitted high-quality works again this year, and we will provide generous support for the development of pressed flower art.”

On the day, side events such as the 3rd Imagination Nureum Flower Contest exhibition and promotion and sales of excellent agricultural and specialty products were held, receiving great responses from visitors.

Meanwhile, the Korea Pressed Flower Museum, the world’s only pressed flower museum, permanently exhibits past award-winning works from the Pressed Flower Exhibition and offers diverse cultural experiences to visitors through special exhibitions such as the Sancheong Anti-Aging Expo and the Jeonnam Ink Biennale.

Gurye-gun plans to hold various exhibitions such as a special pressed flower exhibition at the Jeollanam-do Eastern Government Complex and educational programs to train pressed flower professionals to enhance the artistry and recognition of pressed flower art.
