Joincheol Jo: "Making Gwangju a 'City to Return to,' Not a 'City to Leave'"
Jo In-cheol, the Democratic Party candidate for the National Assembly representing Seo-gu (Gap), Gwangju Metropolitan City, promised to transform Gwangju from a "city people leave" into a "city people return to."
On the 2nd, Jo stated, "I will create a Gwangju where citizens, including their children, return by securing 4 trillion won in national funds and creating jobs."
Last year, Gwangju experienced a net population outflow of 9,017 people, bringing the city to the brink of regional extinction. Outflow occurred across almost all age groups from their 20s to 70s, with the majority being people in their 20s and 30s leaving Gwangju in search of jobs.
Jo emphasized, "I will raise Gwangju's national funds to the 4 trillion won level and establish Gwangju as a leading economic hub centered on the 4th industrial revolution. By creating many good jobs, I will make it a city where our citizens and their children do not leave but rather return."

Jo has experience increasing Gwangju's national funds from 2.1988 trillion won in 2020 to 3.0121 trillion won in 2022 during his tenure as the Deputy Mayor for Cultural Economy of Gwangju.
