Ham Woon-kyung "Yoon's Call to Leave Party Withdrawn... Spoke Too Hastily"
"Not Meant to Be Against People Power Party"
"Highly Appreciate Yoon for Blocking Lee Jae-myung and Cho Kuk"
Ham Woon-kyung, the People Power Party candidate for Mapo-eul, Seoul, who demanded President Yoon Seok-yeol's resignation from the party, stated on the 2nd, "I think I acted hastily. It was not my intention to be at odds with the People Power Party," and announced the withdrawal of his demand for President Yoon's resignation from the party.
On the 2nd, Ham explained his feelings at the time on CBS's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show,' saying, "I had to leave quickly for a broadcast debate, so I couldn't listen to President Yoon's remarks until the end, but I was very disappointed when I first heard them. I was very angry." He added, "When I heard that Policy Chief Seong Tae-yoon said at the grand compromise committee that all issues, including all personnel matters, could be discussed, I thought I had acted hastily in making the demand for resignation."
He further explained, "I suggested that it would be better for the party to convey public sentiment and implement policies with a flexible attitude," and added, "If the intention is to operate regardless of the party, wouldn't it be better to be in a position where free national governance is possible?" He emphasized, "It was not my intention to be at odds with the People Power Party."
On the same day, on MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus,' he said, "It would be great if (President Yoon) could change parts that seem to go against or suppress the thoughts and opinions of the people," and urged, "When the people make demands, it is necessary to listen first, accept them, and try to ease tensions."
He also said, "Isn't the People Power Party a party that embraces even those like me who demanded the president's resignation? Mayor Hong Joon-pyo of Daegu scolded me," calling the party "progressive and free." The day before, Hong posted on Facebook a message to Ham, who demanded President Yoon's resignation, saying, "How dare you, having just joined the party a few days ago, demand the resignation of the president we created?" and "You drifted in without any foundation, entered this party, acted like the owner, and now demand the resignation of the president we made."
