Gyeonggi-do Supports Savings for Severe Disabled Persons Aged 19-23... 100,000 KRW Monthly for 2 Years
Gyeonggi Province is expanding the eligibility for the ‘Disabled Nuri Account,’ which provides an additional 100,000 KRW support when a person with a severe disability saves 100,000 KRW per month, allowing them to accumulate about 5 million KRW after a 2-year term, from ages 19-21 to ages 19-23.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 1st that from the 5th to the 30th of this month, applications for the ‘Disabled Nuri Account’ will be accepted at the administrative welfare centers in towns and townships for residents with ‘severe disabilities’ under the Disability Welfare Act, aged 19 (born in 2005) to 23 (born in 2001).
In the first year of the program in 2022, only 19-year-olds were supported, but considering the age group that can use the savings for tuition and start-ups upon maturity, the eligibility was expanded from 19-21 last year to 19-23 this year.
Last year, Gyeonggi Province supported 3636 subscribers of the ‘Disabled Nuri Account’ with 1.51249 billion KRW.
Gyeonggi Province expects this program to contribute to asset formation for young people with severe disabilities who do not properly benefit from government and local government youth support programs. Most youth support programs target young people with earned income or business income, making it practically difficult for young people with severe disabilities who have difficulty finding employment to participate.
