“Insurance Fraud and Drunk Driving Beware” Operation of Special Investigation Period for Major Traffic Crimes
100 Days from April 1 to July 9
The National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters announced on the 1st that it will operate a special investigation period for 100 days until July 9, focusing on major traffic crimes such as traffic accident insurance fraud and habitual drunk driving violations, and will intensify crackdowns.
Over the past three years, the police have uncovered a total of 7,947 cases of traffic accident insurance fraud through special crackdowns, arresting 6,218 individuals (165 detained).
Additionally, following last year, the police plan to strictly respond to malicious drunk driving crimes by actively seizing vehicles of habitual drunk drivers and punishing those who aid and abet drunk driving.
Since drunk driving, which causes significant public outrage, continues to occur, and with the arrival of spring leading to increased outdoor activities and more drinking gatherings among excursionists, the special investigation period aims to proactively prevent an increase in drunk driving.
Last year, under the 'Police-Prosecutor Joint Drunk Driving Eradication Measures,' which include vehicle seizure and confiscation of perpetrators causing fatal drunk driving accidents and habitual drunk drivers, the police arrested 162 vehicles seized, 1,123 individuals for violations of the Special Act (dangerous driving causing injury or death), 30 for aiding and abetting, and 75 for harboring criminals.
