Gwangju Nam-gu and Korea Tourism Organization to Develop Brand Tourism Products
Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is partnering with the Korea Tourism Organization to discover and nurture brand tourism products led by local residents.
On the 28th, according to Nam-gu, a 'Tourism Dure Business Agreement Ceremony for Discovering and Nurturing Resident-led Tourism Enterprises' was held in the open civil service office on the first floor of the district office in the morning, attended by Kim Byeong-nae, head of the district office, Kim Wansu, director of the Gwangju Jeonnam branch of the Korea Tourism Organization, Kim Jihyo, a specialist, and Choi Young-woo, a PD and local activity leader of the Tourism Dure project.
The Tourism Dure project aims to create a tourism ecosystem where tourists' consumption leads to regional development through support from the Korea Tourism Organization and local governments.
In particular, the core of this project is to support tourism enterprises created under the leadership of local residents during the process of fostering an ecosystem to revitalize local tourism, by providing up to 110 million KRW in phased, customized pilot project costs for up to five years to help them achieve independence and sustainable growth.
Following the agreement, Nam-gu and the Korea Tourism Organization will provide close support so that local residents can start or manage tourism enterprises with unique local characteristics.
First, the Korea Tourism Organization will take charge of overall operation of the project, including supporting the activities of Tourism Dure PDs, discovering and nurturing resident enterprises, monitoring, and evaluation.
Nam-gu will provide administrative support and promotion for the activation of the Tourism Dure project, including offering a community space for the project’s promotion within the region.
Additionally, the Tourism Dure PDs working on site will assist communication between the Korea Tourism Organization, Nam-gu Office, and local private sectors, providing close support from discovering resident enterprises to startup and management improvement.
Furthermore, the discovery of resident enterprises will be conducted through public recruitment and screening processes after holding a project briefing session in the future.
