HBM Green Light... Samsung "Production 2.9 Times Higher This Year" SK Hynix "10% Revenue Share"
"Significant Growth Expected in AI Memory Demand"
The high-bandwidth memory (HBM) market, a memory semiconductor for artificial intelligence (AI), continues to grow this year, with Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix presenting positive business outlooks.
On the 27th, Kwak No-jeong, president of SK Hynix, stated at the 76th regular shareholders' meeting held at the Supex Hall at the company's headquarters in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, "Last year, the sales bit volume of HBM accounted for a single digit of the total DRAM sales volume," adding, "This year, the HBM bit volume is expected to reach double digits, which will help in terms of profitability."
SK Hynix expects the proportion of HBM in DRAM sales volume per bit to increase from a single-digit percentage last year to a double-digit percentage this year. Since HBM is a high-value-added product, it is expected to significantly contribute to performance, according to President Kwak.
He predicted that as AI competition intensifies globally this year, "demand for AI memory will grow significantly." He also explained that "HBM demand will remain very tight next year," indicating that demand exceeds supply in the HBM market.
Samsung Electronics also anticipates that with the expansion of the HBM market, product shipments this year could increase up to 2.9 times compared to last year. This is an upward revision of the previous forecast, which expected a 2.5-fold increase in HBM shipments this year.
