SK Telecom will increase the subscription fee for YouTube Premium by about 40% starting in June.
According to SKT on the 27th, the subscription fee for the YouTube Premium service under SKT's subscription service 'T Woju Pass' is scheduled to increase from June 1.
For those subscribing to YouTube Premium through 'Woju Pass with YouTube Premium' and 'Woju Pass life,' the monthly fee will rise from the current 9,900 KRW to 13,900 KRW starting in June. For 'Woju Pass all' subscribers, the fee will increase from 10,450 KRW to 14,900 KRW per month.
If users agree to the fee increase, payment will be processed at the revised rate from June upon consenting on the 'Consent/Reject Page.'
Users who do not wish to use the service at the changed rate must cancel their subscription or modify additional benefits by May 30. If users reject or do not respond to the fee change on the 'Consent/Reject Page,' their subscription will be canceled on the regular payment date in June.
This follows a trend of mobile carriers raising subscription fees for the 'YouTube Premium' service. KT also announced last month that starting May 1, the price for the YouTube Premium 'OTT subscription' service would increase from 9,450 KRW to 13,900 KRW. LG Uplus is also considering a price increase.
Meanwhile, the initial sign-up discount benefit, which offered the first month of YouTube Premium subscription for 1,000 KRW for SKT's 'Woju Pass all' and 'Woju Pass life' products, is expected to end starting next month on the 1st.
