[Hot Interview] Saemirae Proportional Candidate No.1 Yang Soyoung "Will Be the Speaker for 2030 Youth"
300 Young Members of the Democratic Party Join Saemirae with Great Courage
Different Voices in the Community, Fear of Stigma
"We Will Create a Vocational Education Ladder for Local Youth"
On the 25th, about 300 young members of the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) from the Gwangju region left the party, criticizing "the personal domination by Representative Lee Jae-myung." They declared their joining of Lee Nak-yeon's New Future party, stating that "the Democratic Party has turned into a personal party." A notable point is that at the end of their press conference, they mentioned Yang So-young, co-chair of the New Future joint election committee, expressing hope that "she will represent the voice of the 2030 generation." Yang was selected as the number one proportional representation candidate for the April 10 general election under New Future. If the party secures more than 3% of the total votes in the general election, it can enter the National Assembly. In a phone interview on the 26th, Yang said, "I believe this is a sincere request from young party members who feel a sense of loss and relative deprivation within the current Democratic Party."

Recently, about 300 young Democratic Party members from the Gwangju region joined New Future.
These are young people who worked together with me when I was in the Democratic Party. Even if there are disagreements with the Democratic Party in this region, it is really difficult to voice them. The fact that these young people joined New Future shows great courage within the local community.
Specifically, what difficulties do they face?
The most decisive issue is that many young people believe the Democratic Party's alliance with Lee Jae-myung's Democratic Party and the Jo Guk Innovation Party is fundamentally wrong. The gap between the 40s and 50s generation, who give concrete support to the Democratic Party in the Gwangju region, and the 20s and 30s generation is enormous. However, when young generations express different opinions in the local community, they can easily be stigmatized. This happens widely in universities and local communities. I am also one of the victims.
Are there any policies prepared for local youth?
I have been continuously advocating for creating a vocational education ladder for local youth. This is to create proper jobs so that young people can stay in the region. In fact, many areas in the Gwangju-Jeonnam region are underdeveloped. There are very few quality jobs. This is also the biggest reason why local youth move to the metropolitan area. I will strive to ensure that no young generation suffers from industrial changes.

What are your future political aspirations?
In fact, subjectivity is a very important area in politics. The youth generation can best understand youth issues. The public views youth politics as almost a failure and has lost much trust. There will be limits to the youth generation asserting subjectivity. I will do my best to prove the greater cause. I will serve as a true speaker who conveys the voices of local youth so that they do not leave their communities.
