Yongin City "Reduce Number of Households in Eonnam District and Strengthen Self-Sufficiency Functions"
"LH and Consultation Progress... Metropolitan Transportation Measures Also Prepared"
The 'Eonnam Publicly Supported Private Rental Housing Supply Promotion District (Eonnam District)' project, which had been facing difficulties due to disagreements between Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province and the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), is expected to make progress. As consultations between the two organizations have advanced regarding key issues such as traffic improvement measures and changes to land use plans, expectations for the full-scale promotion of the project are increasing.
Yongin City announced on the 26th that, with progress in consultations with LH, the project implementer, it plans to proceed by preparing a significantly improved development plan from the citizens' perspective for the Eonnam District development project.
The Eonnam District development involves constructing publicly supported private rental housing on a 904,921㎡ site in Eonnam-dong and Cheongdeok-dong, Giheung-gu, which were relocated to the provinces, including the former sites of the Police University and the Judicial Research and Training Institute. LH has been promoting the project since 2016 to utilize former public institution real estate.
The city explained that it is currently negotiating to reduce the originally planned 6,626 housing units by more than 20% to improve residential conditions within the district, as initially designated in December 2016.
In particular, the city added that the land use plan, which had been focused mainly on apartment sites, is being revised to change about 20% of the total site to support facility land to secure self-sufficient functions. The previous plan did not include any support facility land.
They are also negotiating for LH to bear approximately 100 billion KRW in project costs for road construction near the Eonnam District requiring traffic improvements and the new Yeongdong Expressway Dongbaek IC project. A city official expressed optimism, saying, "Through this consultation, six out of the seven metropolitan traffic improvement routes requested by the city have been effectively reflected, which will alleviate citizens' concerns about traffic congestion."
Among the metropolitan traffic improvement routes, improvements to the Police University Intersection and Kkotme Intersection will be incorporated into the Eonnam District traffic plan. The bypass road for Local Road No. 23 and improvements to Pungdeokcheon Intersection have been included in the Platform City traffic plan. Previously, the Shindae Lake Intersection improvement project was completed in 2020. The improvement of Guseong Intersection will be resolved through the undergrounding of Local Road No. 23.
The city is also preparing plans to build cultural and sports facilities in the cultural park planned at the center of the Eonnam District.
