Gochang-gun Guarantees Minimum Prices for Agricultural Products... Supports Autumn Radish Farmers

Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk Province guarantees the minimum production price for farmers cultivating autumn radishes, whose market prices fell last year.

On the 26th, the county held the ‘Gochang-gun Major Agricultural Products Minimum Price Guarantee Fund Operation Committee’ and decided to include autumn radishes, whose prices plummeted last year, as a target item for differential support.

Accordingly, up to 8.12 million KRW will be supported per farm cultivating autumn radishes (late October to early December). Last year, the market price of autumn radishes was 472.3 KRW per kilogram, a 33.6% decrease compared to 724.4 KRW the previous year.

The ‘Major Agricultural Products Minimum Price Guarantee System,’ a key agricultural policy pledge of Sim Deok-seop, the mayor of Gochang-gun in the 8th local government term, aims to secure a total fund of 3 billion KRW by 2027 to support the difference when wholesale market prices of agricultural products fall below the minimum price.

The support targets farmers who reside in the county, directly produce agricultural products on farmland located in Gochang-gun, and ship their products through integrated marketing organizations (or participating organizations) within the county.

The support amount covers part of the difference when the average wholesale market price of the agricultural product falls below the minimum price required for production and distribution.

The target items include seven products: sweet potatoes, watermelons, pears, napa cabbages, radishes, onions, and chili peppers, with support ranging from 1,000㎡ to 10,000㎡.

Mayor Sim Deok-seop said, “We established the Major Agricultural Products Minimum Price Guarantee Fund to share the pain of farmers devastated by price crashes and to plant a seed of hope for them. We hope that this fund will contribute to price stability of Gochang-gun’s agricultural products and the economic well-being of farmers.”
