US Ignores Russian 'Terror Warning'... Shows Deepening US-Russia Distrust
"'Ukraine Backing Theory' is to Find the Link to the War"
The United States repeatedly warned Russian authorities in advance about the risk of large-scale terrorism, but the failure to prevent the attacks reveals the deep mistrust between the U.S. and Russia, according to an analysis.
Former Ambassador to Russia Park Nobyeok appeared on KBS Radio's 'Jeonggyeok Sisa' on the 25th and said, "Russian President Putin publicly disparaged U.S. intelligence at a government agency executive meeting, calling it a threat aimed at destabilizing Russia," adding, "As a result, the security departments likely did not place importance on the advance warnings."
On the 24th, Dareldjon Mirzoyev, one of the suspects in the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Russia, which occurred on the 22nd (local time), sat in the glass defendant's box at the Basmanny District Court in Moscow, bowing his head. It has been confirmed that 137 people have died so far in this shooting attack. Photo by Reuters, Yonhap News

On the reasons why the extremist armed group Islamic State (IS) attacked Russia, he said, "Since Russia became involved in Middle Eastern and Syrian issues in 2011, it became a target of Islamic extremist forces," noting, "In 2017, a terrorist attack occurred at the Saint Petersburg metro station, killing about 15 people." He continued, "Russia has been conducting extensive military operations since 2015, including airstrikes on Syria and devastating the city of Aleppo," and added, "At that time, IS was brought to the brink of collapse, but IS views Russia as a 'force oppressing Muslims' and a 'crusader force aiming to eliminate Muslims.'"

Although IS's base is Afghanistan, the reason why the captured suspects are mainly from Tajikistan is because Khorasan (IS-K) has branches regionally in Iran, Central Asia, and other areas. He explained, "Especially Tajikistanis have been heavily involved in Khorasan among Central Asian countries and played a key role when operating in Syrian territory." Former Ambassador Park said, "Tajikistan is a poor country with an income of about $300 per month," adding, "Therefore, about 2.5 million Tajikistanis work as foreign laborers in Russia, but due to poor living and working conditions, they are in an environment where it is easy to join criminal groups."
