Gyeonggi-do Provides Psychological Counseling and Legal Support to 14,680 Victims of Domestic and Sexual Violence
Gyeonggi Province has provided 26,964 cases of support, including psychological counseling, medical, and legal assistance, to 14,680 people last year through eight ‘Domestic Violence and Sexual Violence Joint Response Teams’ (tentative name) within the province.
The Joint Response Teams play a role in supporting victims and families of domestic violence, sexual violence, and other incidents reported to 112. Police officers, counselors, and integrated case managers intervene in the issues victims express through phone counseling, remove situations causing violence, and provide information to support and resolve realistic needs. The teams have been operating in eight cities and counties since November 2021, starting with Bucheon and Hanam.
According to last year’s performance, the support recipients included 14,265 domestic violence victims, 34 sexual violence victims, 330 stalking and dating violence victims, and 51 victims of other violence, totaling 14,680 people.
Gyeonggi Province provided 26,964 cases of support to these individuals, including 469 home visits to reported households, 14,671 psychological counseling sessions, 1,368 referrals to specialized institutions, 738 emergency separations, 1,862 legal counseling sessions, 183 medical supports, and 7,628 other supports.
This year, Gyeonggi Province plans to establish Joint Response Teams in three additional cities and counties.

A Gyeonggi Province official stated, "Currently, the support system for victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, dating violence, and stalking can only assist cases where the victim personally consents to receive support, so there are many cases where active help cannot be provided. However, as the response teams conduct in-depth case analysis and active counseling, victims are opening their hearts. We will continue to do our best to protect victims."
