Prosecutors Summon SPC Chairman Heo Young-in for Alleged Coercion to Leave Minnochoong
Allegations of Coercion to Withdraw from Minjunochong and Promotion Personnel Disadvantages
Regarding the suspicion of coercion to withdraw from the Paris Baguette bakery workers' union, SPC Group Chairman Huh Young-in appeared at the prosecution on the 25th.
The Public Investigation Division 3 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Im Sam-bin) summoned Chairman Huh as a suspect on charges including violation of the Labor Union and Labor Relations Adjustment Act and is conducting an investigation.
Previously, the prosecution notified Chairman Huh to appear three times on the 18th, 19th, and 21st of this month, but his side refused to appear, citing work-related reasons for being unable to attend on those dates.
The prosecution is investigating allegations that from July 2019 to August 2022, PB Partners, a subsidiary of SPC, coerced members of the Paris Baguette branch of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) Textile and Food Workers' Union to withdraw and gave disadvantages in promotions.
They also suspect unfair labor practices such as supporting the securing of union members for the pro-management Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU) Food Industry Workers' Union PB Partners labor union and having the union chairman A give interviews or statements aligned with management's position.
During the investigation of related parties including SPC CEO Hwang Jae-bok (indicted in custody), the prosecution reportedly secured statements indicating that Chairman Huh ordered unfair labor practices.
