Woongjin ThinkBig Launches 'Disney Interactive Reading' in Korea... First Edition of 360,000 Copies Sold Out
Woongjin ThinkBig announced on the 25th that the new series of its augmented reality reading solution ‘ARpedia,’ titled ‘Disney Interactive Reading,’ sold out 360,000 copies within just three weeks of its domestic launch.
Woongjin ThinkBig introduced the English product ‘Disney Interactive Reading’ of ‘ARpedia,’ produced in collaboration with The Walt Disney Company Korea (hereinafter Disney Korea), to the domestic market on the 4th.
Even before its release, the product generated market anticipation as a Disney-themed book series featuring AR (augmented reality) functionality. On the day of release, it recorded sales of 220,000 copies and maintained a steep sales growth, achieving a complete sell-out of the initial print run of 360,000 copies (equivalent to 8,000 sets composed of 45 volumes) within three weeks.
This new product has received favorable reviews in the market for its composition of books featuring Disney and Pixar works ranging from classic stories enjoyed by the parent generation to the latest animations familiar to children, its interactive AR features that stimulate children’s imagination and encourage active participation, and supplementary materials such as English word cards, Korean translations, and workbooks that enhance English learning effectiveness.
Woongjin ThinkBig plans to begin the second production of ‘Disney Interactive Reading’ to secure additional domestic stock by April. It is also preparing for overseas releases in regions such as Taiwan and Vietnam, where it holds the distribution rights, and will continue discussions with Disney Korea about expanding into new countries including Japan and Hong Kong.
Park Jung-wook, head of the ARpedia team at Woongjin ThinkBig, said, “The combination of Disney IP power and ARpedia’s unique AR technology has made this ‘Disney Interactive Reading’ series the most well-received among all series released so far. Based on this domestic success, we will do our best to be recognized as a valuable educational tool for children worldwide.”
