Minister of Commerce Meets with CEOs of US Eli Lilly and HP, Sends "Investment Expansion" Love Call
Wang Wentao, China's Minister of Commerce, reportedly met consecutively with CEOs of global pharmaceutical companies, including Eli Lilly, on the 21st to request expanded investment, the Ministry of Commerce announced on the 22nd.
According to the Ministry of Commerce and foreign media such as Bloomberg News, Minister Wang met with David Ricks, CEO of Eli Lilly, in Beijing on the same day, urging him to increase investment and provide more high-quality pharmaceuticals and services in China.
In response, CEO Ricks said, "We consider the Chinese market very important," and promised, "We will strengthen our research and development efforts within China."
The meeting between the two took place amid calls within the U.S. Congress to sanction the Chinese biotechnology company WuXi AppTec.
It is known that a significant portion of the active ingredient in Eli Lilly's obesity treatment drug, Zepbound, is produced by WuXi AppTec.
Minister Wang also met with Enrique Lores, CEO of Hewlett-Packard (HP), urging innovation and expanded investment in China.
