China Effectively Supports 'US Gaza Ceasefire Resolution'... "Prompt Realization of Ceasefire"
As the United States submitted a resolution to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Israel-Gaza Strip war, China, which has criticized the U.S. for fueling instability in the Middle East by siding with Israel, has effectively expressed its support.
At a regular briefing on the 22nd, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Zhen responded to reporters' questions about how China would vote on the U.S.-submitted resolution by saying, "The Gaza Strip conflict continues to create a severe humanitarian crisis, and the international community expects the Security Council to effectively fulfill its responsibilities."
Lin added, "China supports the Security Council taking more responsible and meaningful actions promptly to quickly calm the Gaza Strip war and continuously strive to implement the 'two-state solution.'"
He emphasized, "We believe that in the Palestine-Israel issue, it is essential to respect history and facts, listen to and respect the positions and voices of numerous Arab countries, and realize a ceasefire as soon as possible. The humanitarian situation must be alleviated, and the implementation of the two-state solution must be promoted."
He added, "This is the standard by which we evaluate the Security Council's actions and decisions."

Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in an interview with Saudi Arabian media outlet Al Hadath on the 20th (local time) that the U.S. had submitted a resolution to the Security Council calling for an immediate ceasefire linked to the release of hostages held in the Palestinian Gaza Strip, adding, "I believe it will send a strong message, a strong signal."
The United States, Israel's closest ally and security partner, has exercised its veto power three times against ceasefire demands or urging resolutions raised at the UN Security Council since the outbreak of the conflict in October last year, and China has strongly criticized the U.S. each time.
In the vote on a humanitarian ceasefire resolution submitted by Algeria to the Security Council last month, 13 of the 15 council members, including China and Russia, voted in favor. The U.S. exercised its veto, and even the United Kingdom, which has almost always aligned with the U.S., abstained.
The UN Security Council consists of 15 countries, including five permanent members and ten non-permanent members.
