The Boryeong Police Station in Chungnam announced on the 22nd that they had apprehended and were investigating Mr. A (in his 20s), who stole a cargo vehicle from the parking lot of Daecheon Rest Area in Jugyo-myeon, Boryeong City, around 8:10 a.m., on charges of special theft.
According to the police investigation, Mr. A was carrying a weapon and wandering around the rest area before stealing the 1-ton cargo truck and fleeing toward Seoul.
The police requested cooperation from the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency, and it is reported that the suspect was caught by highway patrol officers about 1 km before Hwaseong Rest Area during the pursuit.
Police investigation revealed that Mr. A had repeatedly scouted vehicles by sitting in the driver's seats of several passenger cars parked in the rest area parking lot or pulling on the door handles.
