"Will Repay After Promotion and Voluntary Retirement"…Active Police Officer Booked on Billion-Won Fraud Charges
A Police Officer Who Borrowed Over 120 Million Won and Did Not Repay
An active police officer has been booked on charges of borrowing a large sum of money from an acquaintance and failing to repay it for several years.
On the 22nd, the Chungnam Provincial Police Agency announced that the Cheonan Dongnam Police Station has booked and is investigating Mr. A, a police officer in his 50s affiliated with the Asan Police Station, on fraud charges. Mr. A is accused of borrowing over 120 million won in eight installments from February to June 2021 from Mr. B (38), a real estate rental businessman introduced by an acquaintance, and failing to repay it.
He reportedly repeatedly borrowed money saying, "I need money due to investment failure, but if I get promoted and take early retirement, I can repay it with the retirement pension, so please lend me 50 million won," and "I will pay interest of 120,000 won per month for every 10 million won."
Mr. A paid about 32 million won in interest to Mr. B by October last year. However, he delayed repaying the principal without actually taking the promised early retirement.
Mr. B, who lent the money trusting solely in the fact that Mr. A was a police officer, filed a complaint with the prosecution after facing the risk of being unable to properly repay the tenants' jeonse deposits. Mr. B stated, "He threatened that if I filed a complaint, he would not be able to take early retirement and thus would not be able to repay the borrowed money," and added, "I suspect that he has been making excuses for years despite having no ability to repay from the beginning."
