KOSPI Ends Down Over 1% as Foreigners and Institutions Both Net Sell...
The KOSPI index fell more than 1% due to simultaneous selling pressure from foreigners and institutions.
On the 19th, the KOSPI index closed at 2,656.17, down 29.67 points (1.1%) from the previous day. Trading volume was 683.59 million shares, and the trading value was tentatively estimated at 10.5589 trillion won.
By investor type, institutions and foreigners net sold 701.3 billion won and 241.4 billion won respectively, while individuals net bought 908.7 billion won. Program trading saw net selling of 167 billion won in arbitrage trading and 335.6 billion won in non-arbitrage trading.
Most sectors declined. The electric and gas industry fell 6.6%, transportation equipment -3.51%, insurance -2.36%, medical precision -2.12%, finance -1.59%, transportation and warehousing -1.39%, steel and metals -1.25%, construction -1.22%, machinery -1.03%, and services -1.0%. Meanwhile, the textile and apparel and non-metallic minerals sectors recorded slight gains.
Top market capitalization stocks showed mixed movements. Samsung Electronics remained flat, while SK Hynix fell 2.5%, LG Energy Solution -1.1%, Samsung Biologics -1.28%, Hyundai Motor -2.06%, Kia -7.11%, and POSCO Holdings -1.82%. On the other hand, Celltrion rose 1.04%, and Samsung SDI also gained 1.58%.
On the day, 279 stocks rose, 604 stocks fell, and 49 stocks remained unchanged. Two stocks hit the upper price limit.
The KOSDAQ index also closed slightly lower. The KOSDAQ index ended the day at 891.91, down 2.57 points (0.29%) from the previous day. By investor type, institutions and foreigners net sold 119 billion won and 104 billion won respectively, while individuals net bought 232.5 billion won.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, more stocks rose. EcoPro BM rose 1.31%, HLB 1.78%, Alteogen 3.47%, Celltrion Pharm 1.64%, Rino Industrial 1.77%, Rainbow Robotics 5.61%, Shinsung Delta Tech 12.63%, and Wemade 4.17%. Meanwhile, EcoPro fell 0.65%, and HPSP also dropped 2.26%.

Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won/dollar exchange rate closed at 1,339.8 won, up 6.1 won from the previous day.
