Prosecution Appeals Against 3-Year Prison Sentence in First Trial for Hwang Ui-jo's Sister-in-Law
The prosecution appealed the first trial verdict that sentenced Hwang's sister-in-law to three years in prison on charges of exposing and threatening soccer player Hwang Ui-jo's private life.
The prosecution has requested an arrest warrant for the 5th cousin of Minister of Justice Cho Kuk, a key figure in the 'private equity fund suspicion,' and there are expectations that Professor Jung Kyung-shim, Cho's wife, will soon be summoned. The prosecution stated, "Considering that the victims' sexual intercourse videos were actually widely distributed through SNS and other means, causing irreparable damage, and that the victims refused to accept the deposit and are petitioning for severe punishment against the defendant, the sentence imposed is too light."
Ms. A was arrested and indicted in December last year on charges of sharing photos and sexual videos of Hwang and other women on SNS, claiming to be Hwang's ex-girlfriend, and threatening Hwang. The prosecution demanded a four-year prison sentence for Ms. A at the sentencing hearing.
