Shinan-gun Sees Surge in Applications for 'Sunlight Child Scholarship Savings' for Under 18s
Supporting Children's Future Lump-Sum Savings... Over 400 Applications in One Week
On January 5th, Shinan-gun, Jeollanam-do signed a business agreement with the New Renewable Energy e-Union and local agricultural cooperatives, and launched the 'Sunlight Child Scholarship Savings' product on the 4th to support children in securing a future financial lump sum.
According to the county on the 18th, the 'Sunlight Child Scholarship Savings' is targeted at children under 18 years old residing in Shinan-gun, and applications can be made by visiting the local Nonghyup branches (Bukshinan, Aphae, Imja-Bigeum, Docho, Namshinan, Shinan Nonghyup) at the registered address from the 4th until the 19th of next month.
The New Renewable Energy e-Union plans to provide 400,000 KRW each in the first and second half of this year, totaling 800,000 KRW, and 1.2 million KRW annually next year. The savings period is up to 3 years, with a preferential interest rate of 7.5% applied at maturity. Those eligible for the Sunlight Pension and Sunlight Child Allowance who do not apply for the savings can receive gift certificates as before.

A county official stated, “We hope the Sunlight Child Scholarship Savings will provide economic help to parents,” and added, “We plan to develop more supportive products in cooperation with local Nonghyup heads, and hope for continuous interest and strong response from residents as a small step to overcome population decline.”
