They discussed matters related to the stable introduction of seasonal labor, mutual exchange, cooperation, and support in various fields. The signing of the MOU for recruiting seasonal workers is expected to help respond to variables caused by political changes in the sending country and prepare for the increasing demand for foreign seasonal workers. It is anticipated to provide practical assistance to farms struggling with timely farming during busy seasons due to aging and population decline.
During the visit, county officials met directly with Laotian seasonal workers, promising them safe working conditions abroad and encouraging them to work diligently with a sense of mission, as they are a great support to the farms.
Governor Yoon Kyung-hee stated, “As a solution to the recurring labor shortage in rural areas every year, we will actively respond to farm demands by diversifying partner countries through the foreign seasonal worker MOU and do our best to ensure that farming during busy seasons proceeds without disruption.” She added, “I also hope this agreement will serve as an opportunity to open channels for exchange in economic, cultural, and social fields overall.”
