Collecting Expert Opinions for the Successful Hosting of the Expo
The (Foundation) 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo Organizing Committee held an advisory meeting with experts on the 13th to ensure the successful hosting of the Islands Expo.
The advisory committee consists of 28 members across four fields: Professor Kim Jun of Chonnam National University (Islands, Marine, Ecology), Kim Bunhee, CEO of Messe International (Exhibition, Planning), Professor Lim Seungwan of Chonnam National University (Facilities, Operations), and Professor Lee Bongsu of MBC Journalism School (Tourism, Promotion). The committee will provide advice on expo promotion, content development, and detailed execution plan establishment.
Jeong Gi-myeong, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee (Mayor of Yeosu), said, “Through the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo, the world’s first expo themed on islands, we aim to create an opportunity to empathize with and share the charm and future value of islands worldwide,” adding, “We will prepare the Islands Expo sincerely with expert advice.”
At the first meeting held that day, advisory committee members engaged in in-depth discussions on the basic plan for the Islands Expo.
The advisory members suggested the importance of pre-promotion for a successful expo, linking Yeosu’s islands with the main venue’s content and programs, and wise sustainable use of islands after the expo.
Advisory member Kim Jun proposed, “To promote the Islands Expo, we should highlight the value of islands and the meaning of the expo in an easy and clear manner,” while advisory member Lim Seungwan said, “Consideration is needed regarding the scale and layout of the main venue’s exhibition production hall.”
Additionally, advisory member Lee Bongsu requested “the operation of a media day inviting YouTubers who can have domestic and international influence.”
Furthermore, Park Ki-young, professor at Suncheon National University and appointed as the advisory committee chairperson, stated, “Storytelling that reflects island region stories is necessary in the composition of content and programs.”
