Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, Fully Committed to Establishing 'Neulbom School' in Collaboration with the Community
The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education is making every effort to ensure the successful establishment of Gwangju Neulbom School in collaboration with the local community.
According to the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education on the 12th, Neulbom School, a comprehensive educational program outside of regular classes designed to support student growth and development, began on the 4th targeting 32 elementary schools.
The program aims to support student growth and development by linking safe school spaces with various educational resources in the local community.
Neulbom School consists of diverse Neulbom services that satisfy users by utilizing not only school-based but also local community human and material infrastructure.
The private consignment project ‘On (溫) Maeul Da (多) Bomteo’ was expanded from 15 institutions last year to 30 institutions this year. Through this project, 388 students received high-quality after-school programs at local institutions last year.
This year, the plan is to provide high-quality care services targeting elementary students who are on the waiting list for Neulbom (care) classrooms and those who wish for evening care. Currently, 21 institutions such as small libraries, social cooperatives, and social welfare centers have been selected, and additional recruitment is ongoing until the 13th.
Separately, operating expenses are being supported for four elementary schools including Gwangju Yongsan Elementary School to jointly operate Neulbom programs with nearby local children's centers and Dahamkke Care Centers, continuing steadily since last year. This year, 11 programs such as board games, picture book play, and band gymnastics will be jointly operated, with about 250 students expected to participate.
Additionally, Neulbom programs linked with the village education community project promoted by the Gwangju Education Civic Cooperation Promotion Institute will also be conducted. Programs involving the village, utilizing village instructors and local experts, are planned.
To ensure smooth program operation, the Metropolitan Office of Education plans to form a ‘Regional Neulbom Council’ centered on related institutions (organizations) to accelerate the operation of Gwangju Neulbom School in collaboration with the local community.
On the 11th, Superintendent Lee Jeong-seon visited Bityeoul Elementary School to observe student activities and check the overall school situation including program operation, space, and personnel status.
