Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it ranked first in both the ‘Employment Rate of Ages 15 to 64 (OECD comparison standard)’ and the ‘Female Employment Rate’ categories in the 2023 second half regional employment survey results released by Statistics Korea.
As a result of accelerating infrastructure development for regional economic revitalization and job creation, the district achieved the remarkable feat of ranking first among Seoul’s 25 autonomous districts in both the first and second halves of 2023 in these two categories. Additionally, it proudly secured second place in the youth employment rate category.
In the second half of last year, Yeongdeungpo-gu’s employment rates were 74.0% for ages 15 to 64, 67.2% for females, and 60.3% for youth.
Despite the challenging social environment marked by interest rate hikes and rising prices, the district has made multifaceted efforts to create jobs and support employment.
First, to provide tailored employment support matching job seekers’ needs, the district operated the ▲JOB FOR YOU program offering one-on-one on-site interview opportunities and the ▲Job Discovery Task Force (Job-ara On-site Mobile Unit) program that directly discovers hiring companies. It also continuously held job fairs to provide job seekers with counseling and on-site interview opportunities.
Furthermore, to strengthen job seekers’ capabilities, the district has promoted various projects including training courses for national certifications such as general security guard, small construction machinery technician, and caregiver, as well as programs supporting youth employment and entrepreneurship such as the ▲Youth Instructor Training Program (Run by Run), ▲Mentoring Concert, and ▲Youth Digital Marketing Expert Training.
In addition, keeping pace with the changing social atmosphere, the district operates the ▲Middle-aged Job Hope Platform, a workspace for early retirees and those preparing for retirement in their 40s and 50s, and ▲Studio Yeongwon for one-person media creators, dedicating efforts to creating spaces for job seekers’ community formation.
