Putin on International Women's Day: "Childbirth is the Greatest Gift and Destiny"
"Motherhood is a Difficult but Glorious Mission"
Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is promoting a multi-child policy, once again emphasized the importance of motherhood and childbirth on the 8th (local time), International Women's Day.
On this day, President Putin said in a video message celebrating International Women's Day, "Motherhood is a glorious mission," adding, "You have the power to improve this world thanks to your beauty, wisdom, generosity, and above all, the ability to give birth to children, the greatest gift bestowed by nature." He also said, "Motherhood is a difficult and very important mission, but it is also a tremendous source of joy and happiness," and "Care and respect for women and motherhood are essential parts of our tradition."

President Putin made similar remarks on the 6th. On that day, during a closing speech at the World Youth Festival held near Sirius, Sochi, Russia, he said, "The destiny of women is to continue the lineage," adding, "It is a unique gift of nature, and we all support it with great respect." He also emphasized, "This year, Russia will focus on families," stating, "Supporting families with children is a priority." President Putin specifically mentioned women serving in or awaiting the return of soldiers involved in the Ukraine 'special military operation,' as well as women helping soldiers in hospitals, saying, "They have proven that the heart of a woman is an irresistible force."
Recently, the Russian government has expressed concern over the declining birth rate and is implementing policies to support 'large families' with three or more children. Last month, President Putin also stated, "For the survival of the nation, at least two children must be born, and for the development and prosperity of the country, three or more children must be born."
On the occasion of International Women's Day, President Putin also made remarks suggesting that more women should enter public office. He said, "Women play an important role in the state in Russia, but unfortunately, there are not many women in the government," adding, "Women are more meticulous and responsible in a good way, so the more women in government, the better." Tatiana Golikova, Deputy Prime Minister, whom President Putin introduced as a representative female official, claimed in a separate speech that "the ideal age to start a family is between 18 and 24," and "up to 24 is the most suitable age to have children."
