Resident Feedback Collected Concurrently, Comprehensive Speed Bump Maintenance to Begin in May After Survey Completion
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will conduct a full survey of approximately 1,400 speed bumps in the area to strengthen traffic safety.
This is to reflect the opinions of parents gathered at last year's 'Children Protection Zone School Commute Safety Meeting.' They responded promptly to the suggestion to replace the virtual speed bumps with arc-shaped ones, which have better vehicle deceleration effects.
From this month until April, a joint survey will be conducted with a professional company. The focus will be on the locations and shapes of the speed bumps installed, as well as the road conditions, checking for any damaged or non-standard speed bumps that are unsuitable.
During the survey period, residents' opinions will also be collected. The plan is to identify places where speed bumps need to be installed or removed to build a traffic environment that meets the needs of the residents. The opinions presented will also be reflected in the '2024 Gwangjin-gu Traffic Safety Facility Operation and Management Plan.'
Based on the survey results, speed bumps will be maintained starting in May. The virtual speed bumps will be replaced with arc-shaped ones to prevent safety accidents caused by speeding. The arc-shaped speed bumps, with their rounded top shape, are more intuitive than virtual ones that use visual illusions, making them more effective in inducing deceleration.
