Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) has published "Gwangjin Changes in 2024," a collection of projects that help residents' daily lives to welcome the new year of Gapjin.
This year, the district will newly launch a total of 72 projects in six areas: ▲Open Communication ▲Welfare and Health ▲Economy and Jobs ▲Culture and Education ▲Safety and Environment ▲Living Information.
First, the garbage collection method will be drastically improved. Garbage collection, which was done every other day, has been expanded to six days a week to enhance residents' convenience. For small home appliances disposal without fees, it will no longer be necessary to attach a notification sticker.
To assist residents who suffer unexpected accidents and help them return quickly to daily life, the district will expand the residents' life safety insurance. It guarantees up to 20 million KRW for accidental death funeral expenses, 10 million KRW for accidental disability, and 1 million KRW for accidental medical expenses.
Efforts will also be made to prevent safety accidents for vulnerable pedestrians. In Gwangjin-gu, heating cables are installed on 16 roads to prevent snow accumulation and freezing. This year, heating cables will be pilot-installed and operated on sidewalks as well. Heating cables will be laid on sidewalks around Dongui Elementary School, which has steep slopes among elementary school routes, to prepare for slip accidents.
Policies to revitalize the local economy will also be implemented. Sales channel education such as live commerce and smart stores, as well as age-specific customized economic classes, are expected to bring new vitality to the local economy.
In addition, the Sewing Industry Comprehensive Support Center will be fully operated to actively support small manufacturers' capacity building and sales channel expansion.
The district is also working to solve the biggest civil complaint, parking issues. This year, 511 parking spaces will be added in four locations, including 94 spaces at Baenamuteo Park in Junggok 3-dong.
New facilities will also be established. The Guri 2-dong Complex Office Building will open in June. The complex office building will house a children's English library, a shared childcare center, and a public parking lot, adding convenience to residents' daily lives. The Gwangjin Global Family Center, a communication space for multicultural families, the Gunja Health Center, a customized health and culture space, and the Achasan Healing Leisure Community Center, remodeled from an ecological data room, will also be newly introduced.
Furthermore, the district plans to implement projects that residents can feel directly, such as free health checkups for single-person households aged 19 to 64, a monthly 20,000 KRW special activity fee for kindergarten children, an increase in the veterans' honor allowance from 50,000 KRW to 70,000 KRW per month, the Gwangjin-type lifelong education voucher providing 300,000 KRW support for low-income youth, and a mobile dog playground for residents who own pets.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "The 2024 Gwangjin Changes system carefully reviewed useful information that provides practical help to residents' lives at a glance," and added, "We will continue to do our best to create a livable Gwangjin-gu that develops through communication with various projects."
